On last night’s episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta, Phaedra Parks decided to take her young sons to visit their father, Apollo Nida, in jail for the first time. Conflicted about whether or not she was making the right decision, Parks flew to Philly with her mom and sons Ayden, 5, and Dylan, 2, in tow. From there, they drove to Fort Knox prison in New Jersey. Parks wasn’t even sure they’d be able to get in to see Apollo, so she waited to tell the boys where they were going. They were able to get in but not with the cameras.
After the visit, Parks expressed relief that it was all over. “I’m glad I can say now that it’s done,” says Parks. Nida is currently serving an eight-year prison sentence for fraud, and Parks is seeking a divorce. But it looks like Nida doesn’t plan to make that easy for Parks. “He did make a point that he’s not going to sign the papers I asked him to sign,” she told her mother after their visit. “Anything to prolong the process.”
But the vibes weren’t all negative during their visit. “Apollo was definitely happy to see us,” she said. “But, the kids were antsy. They didn’t have any toys.”
After such an emotional first visit, it doesn’t look like Parks and the boys have plans to return any time soon.
“I don’t know when I would do another visit,” she said. “It was a lot. We couldn’t leave when we wanted to leave.”
Awhile back, we polled our readers on what Parks’ next move should be and the verdict was divided. Thirty-three percent of those polled said “divorce him,” while 32-percent said “focus on co-parenting and 24-percent said “support him from a far.” As of right now, it looks like Parks is attempting to do all three.
Now that you’ve watched Parks struggle as a single mom trying to move on, have your thoughts changed on what she should do next?
